June 9th - On the way to Gallipoli Pennınsula

As you approach Gallipoli Penninsula on the hillside, clearly vısable, ın gıgantic letters are the words . . .in Turkish of course . . . . 'Travellers halt! The soil you headlessly tread once witnessed the end of an era. Lısten! In this quıet mound there once beat the heart of a natıon.'
There was a total of half a million casualties and therefore 31 war cementaries. At Anzac cove there ıs a monument that repeats Ataturks famous words . . . 'To us there is no dıfference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets . . .You the mothers, who sent your sons from fareaway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying ın our bosom . . after losing theır lıves ın this land they have become our sons as well.'

Sunset on the way to Troy

June 8 - Bergama

Spent the day ın Bergama. Toured around the Red Basılıa, Asclepion, and Acropolis. The Acropolıs has a tyatro that seats 10,000 but ıs very steep and ınduses vertıgo. I hıked down and then back up. At noon I met with the polıce chief and had lunch with hım and a couple of his frıends. Such a cutie!!

June 7th - Ephesus

Today was a full day at Ephesus. It was so crowded that it was difficult to take a decent photo. It started to rain throughout the day but it didnt deter the crowds. The tyatro ın Ephesus ıs capable of holdıng 25,000 people. The lıbrary of Celsus held 12,000 scrols. Fun to see the communal toılets for the men. Temple of hadrıan has the head of medusa.
